Porcelain Veneers
Have you always admired people with perfect, white teeth? Some people are born with these movie-star smiles - and others get veneers.
If you are interested in using porcelain veneers to improve the aesthetics of your smile, schedule a personalized consultation at Ramsey Family Dentistry. Dr. Kevin Ramsey will help you decide if veneers are a good option for you based on the cosmetic improvements you wish to make. He will also evaluate your smile to see what needs to be done to achieve the look that you desire.
Why Veneers?
If you have teeth that are slightly misaligned or have flaws in size or shape, porcelain veneers can most likely be used to correct these problems. Veneers are also a good option if you have teeth that are heavily stained. Some stains will not respond to teeth whitening treatments, but veneers can give you the bright, white smile that you’ve always wanted.
Depending on your wishes, we can improve the appearance of just one tooth with the use of a single veneer or apply multiple veneers to make your smile consistent and beautiful.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are made from very thin pieces of porcelain and then bonded to your teeth to improve their appearance. Several thin layers of porcelain make up the porcelain laminate veneer. This strong and resilient material will function like natural tooth enamel when bonded to the tooth.
The procedure can be done in two ways:
- Traditional veneer placement
- Prepless veneer placement
When using the traditional method of veneer placement, Dr. Ramsey carefully removes a small portion of the tooth’s enamel (usually less than 1 mm in depth). This creates space for the veneer so that the tooth can function properly in the mouth after the veneer is placed. Dr. Ramsey will then use light-sensitive resin to bond the veneer to the surface of the tooth. A special curing light is used to solidify the bond.
Dr. Ramsey also performs prepless veneer placement, which does not require removal of enamel. After only moderate amounts of etching on the surface of the tooth, Dr. Ramsey will bond the veneers to your teeth. Dr. Ramsey will consult with you and make a recommendation as to which method will best allow you to achieve your cosmetic goals.
After the procedure, Dr. Ramsey will test your bite and make sure that the veneers have properly bonded to your teeth. Veneers offer a whole new look with minimal alteration to your natural tooth; however, the decision to get veneers should not be taken lightly. Because there is some alteration to the tooth’s enamel, you can never completely reverse the procedure.
Whatever method you choose, Dr. Ramsey will design your veneers so that you can achieve the smile you’ve always dreamed of. Call our Gilbert dental office at (480) 207-6001 today to take the first step toward your perfect smile.
